Machu Pichu One Day Hike: The top 5 options

  • Machu Pichu One Day Hike

Visiting Machu Picchu is one of the main objectives of those who visit Peru for business or tourism reasons. However apart from the traditional options offered by the route by train, there are also options to get to Machu Picchu trekking or add to your visit to Machu Picchu a hike.

Here we will show you the 5 best ways for Machu Picchu One Day Hike:

Arrive at Machu Picchu trekking with the One Day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

One day Inca Trail hike to Machu Picchu

Using this route you will arrive at Machu Picchu hiking literally. It starts with the car trip to the town of Ollantaytambo very early (5:40 am)

From Ollantaytambo (Kilometer # 67) you take the train to the place called "Kilometer # 104", this is the control point for the entrance to the Inca Trail. From this point you walk between 4 to 7 hours the 12 Kilometers that it takes to get to Machu Picchu, the walk is done according to your physical condition and without haste.

Upon arrival in Machu Picchu, a 2-hour visit to the Inca city will take place. The entrance is through the so-called Sun Gate, from where you can have a panoramic view of the entire archaeological site of Machu Picchu with impressive views of the valley that contains it.

After the visit to inca city of  Machu Picchu, you will take the bus to the town of Machu Picchu and then take the train to the town of Ollantaytambo and then return by car to Cusco city at night.

This tour, as its name indicates, is done in One Day!, just as you read it, in one day you are part of the Inca Trail and you visit Machu Picchu. It is somewhat exhausting, but the reward for those who have little time and are prepared for the effort is unforgettable.

You can check here the full details of this tour.

Machu Picchu Full Day Tour with Huayna Picchu hike

Machu Picchu One Day Hike with Huayna Picchu

This route includes the traditional tour plus one of the most impressive treks towards the mountain of Huayna Picchu. It requires an additional 1h30-minute hike in addition to the visit to the Inca city of Machu Picchu.

The tour starts early at 6:30 in the morning from the city of Cusco, transported by bus to the town of Ollantaytambo. In Ollantaytambo we embark on the train to the town of Machu Picchu (formerly called Aguas Calientes).
After arriving at the town of Machu Picchu, we immediately embarked by bus to the Inca city of Machu Picchu, here we go to the access control point to Huayna Picchu which is on the other side of the Inca city of Machu Picchu.

The climb to the summit of the Huayna Picchu mountain takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour, depending on your physical condition. You can stay at the top for 30 minutes appreciating the beautiful landscape and taking the respective photos and then descend in an hour on average to the Temple of the Moon. Then you can continue with the visit to the Inca city of Machu Picchu.

After your visit to the Inca city of Machu Picchu begins the return to the city of Cusco. We use the bus to go down to the town of Machu Picchu, we take the train to Ollantaytambo and finally the bus to Cusco.

It is important to remember that the entrance tickets to Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu together are quite requested in the high season, so you must book the One Day Machu Picchu Tour with Huayna Picchu in advance.

You can see more details of this tour here.

Machu Picchu Full Day Tour with the trek to Machu Picchu Mountain

Machu Picchu One Day Hike with Machu Picchu Mountain

The mountain of Machu Picchu is opposite the mountain of Huayna Picchu, and the views and landscape are quite unforgettable as the others. Unlike Huayna Picchu it is less popular but equally recommendable.

The itinerary is similar to the previous option. It starts in Cusco at 6:30 in the morning, continues to Ollantaytambo, by train to the town of Machu Picchu and by bus to the Inca city of Machu Picchu.

At this point begins the trek to the mountain of Machu Picchu that lasts on average 1h30 minutes. The ascent is of a total of 652 meters (2139 feets) and the descent takes between 1h and 1h30 minutes. Then it starts with the visit to the Inca city of Machu Picchu for 3 hours and then start the return to Cusco.

The return itinerary takes the traditional route. Go down by bus to the town of Machu Picchu, take the train back to Ollantaytambo and finally the bus to the city of Cusco.

Entrance tickets for the Machu Picchu mountain plus Machu Picchu although they have little demand, it is preferable to make reservations in advance.

You can see more details of this tour here.

The last two options are not very popular, but they have the charm of reaching the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) the last point of arrival of the Inca Trail and the view of the Inca bridge.

Machu Picchu Full Day Tour plus the walk to the Sun Gate or the hike to the Inca bridge.

These two final options are little visited, but they have the necessary conditions to make the effort of the walk to visit them and to know the charm of their landscapes and impressive views.

The itinerary is similar to the previous options with Cusco as the starting point, Ollantaytambo, Machu Picchu town and the Inca city of Machu Picchu.

After entering our ticket to the Inca city we can say between the two options, know the door of the sun or the Inca bridge. Both options do not need additional ticker than we have to visit the Inca city of Machu Picchu.

Going to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) takes between 2 and 3 hours round trip, the walk is moderate and preferable to do it before the visit to the Inca city of Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu One Day Hike with Sun Gate Trek

The hike to the Inca bridge takes between 30 minutes and 1 hour round trip. The bridge is original but can not be used, however it can be seen from a point at a close distance. It is recommended for the whole family but children should always be accompanied by adults.

Machu Picchu One Day Hike with Sun Gate Trek

Once you return from any of these options to walk, you will visit the Inca city of Machu Picchu and ending with the return trip to Cusco.

You can see more details of this tour here.

All these options of the Machu Picchu One Day Hike can be done in a single day! , the first option (One Day Inca Trail) requires preparation and a greater effort than the other four options, but in all there is a special trek that adds many experience in the trip to know Machu Picchu. Choose one and enjoy them!
